Welcome.

Originally started as a private study journal for my MA, this blog has grown to become a place where I can share the thoughts, influences and creative experiments that are inspiring and informing my work as a designer and creative problem-solver.

Have a click around – hopefully you’ll find something that makes you think or better still makes you smile! If you think we may be able to work together to create something amazing, please get in touch.

The House Café Kanyon

Established in 2003, Turkish studio Autoban designs and develops commercial and residential interior environments and products.

Stardom came relatively early for them, with widespread global press coverage for projects and exhibitions, and awards such as Wallpaper's "Best Young Designers".

The pictures above are of their most recent project, The House Cafe Kanyon in Istanbul, Turkey, which was completed just this year (2009). Light and airy, the harsh structure is tamed through its dressing in wood and draped fabric. An eclectic mix of furniture and fittings have been used and pattern and texture are applied subtly throughout the space.

I like the way in which a potentially cold, industrial skeletal structure has been so successfully turned into an airy and inviting meeting place. The overall effect is one of understated, masculine glamour.
